The crowd was delighted to see Alia and Ranveer in the movie hall. Later, Karan Johar joined them too. Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt addressed the crowd and thanked them. "I am so happy, so happy," Ranveer Singh said in Rocky Randhawa style. Both the actors later clicked selfies with their fans.

The film, directed by Karan Johar, features Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh in titular roles and Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Dharmendra, Tota Roy Choudhury, Namit Das, Churni Ganguly, Aamir Bashir, Kshitee Jog and Anjali Anand in supporting roles.

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, directed by Karan Johar and also produced by him, released in theatres on July 28. The movie marks the second collaboration between Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. It also marks the return of Karan Johar as a director after Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016).

New Cancer Drug, Inspired By 9-Year-Old Girl, Offers New Promises

Researchers in the US have developed a drug that is offering new hope to cancer patients. Names AOH1996, it "appears to annihilate all solid tumours", the experts said in a preclinical research. With the unique name, the researchers have paid tribute to Anna Olivia Healey, a nine-year-old girl who died in 2005 from neuroblastoma, a children's cancer that affects only 600 children in America each year. She was born in 1996 in Indiana. Scientists said Phase 1 clinical trial of the drug is being carried out at City of Hope Hospital in California.

"I knew I wanted to do something special for that little girl," Linda Malkas, a professor in the hospital's Department of Molecular Diagnostics and Experimental Therapeutics, said about naming the drug.

Dr Malkas met the family of the little girl before she died.

"I met Anna's father when she was at her end stages... he asked if I could do something about neuroblastoma and he wrote my lab a check for $25,000. That was the moment that changed my life - my fork in the road," she was quoted as saying by New York Post.

According to the American Cancer Society, neuroblastoma starts in very early forms of nerve cells, and most often found in an embryo or a foetus.

The research said that AOH1996 was created after two decades of research. It targets PCNA, which in its mutated form helps cancerous tumours thrive.

"PCNA is uniquely altered in cancer cells, and this fact allowed us to design a drug that targeted only the form of PCNA in cancer cells while leaving healthy, normal cells untouched," said Dr Malkas.

Since AOH1996 killed cancer cells in several cancer cell lines, it offers hope that the drug can someday be used to treat breast, prostate, brain, ovarian, cervical, skin and lung cancers.

For Art Director Nitin Desai, Tributes From Parineeti Chopra And Others

Film personalities such as Riteish Deshmukh, Siddhartha Basu, and Neil Nitin Mukesh on Wednesday paid tributes to renowned art director Nitin Desai, calling him a "genius" and a "positive soul". Nitin Desai, a four-time National Award winner, was found hanging on Wednesday at his studio in Maharashtra's Raigad district neighbouring Mumbai, a senior police official said. Prima facie, it seems to be a case of suicide, the official said, adding they are investigating the case from all angles.

Siddhartha Basu, who worked with Desai on popular reality shows such as Kaun Banega Crorepati and Dus Ka Dum, said he was shocked to hear about the death of his "friend and artistic collaborator."

"He made sets for so many of our shows - KBC, Kamzor Kadi, Heartbeat, Bluffmaster, Dus ka Dum, Sach ka Saamna.. Conjuring world class installations on an industrial scale. Om shanti," Basu wrote on Twitter.

Nitin Desai was known for his art work in films such as Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Lagaan, Jodhaa Akbar and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. In his career spanning over 30 years, Desai closely worked with directors like Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Rajkumar Hirani, and Ashutosh Gowariker.

Neil said it is difficult to accept the heartbreaking news of Desai's death. The late art director worked on Jail, the 2009 film starring the actor.

"Our beloved Nitin Desai has left for his heavenly abode. He was simply a genius. A visionary artist with grace, style who understood not just his craft but people. He was a positive soul who spread only love to all. My God give his family strength. Om Shanti," he wrote on the microblogging site. Actor Riteish Deshmukh remembered Desai as a soft-spoken visionary.

"Deeply shocked to know that Nitin Desai, a legendary Production Designer who has contributed immensely to the growth of Indian cinema in no more.

"My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. I had known him for years.. soft spoken, humble, ambitious and a visionary... you will be missed my friend. Om Shanti (sic)," Riteish Deshmukh tweeted.

"The news of Nitin Desai's demise is devastating", said filmmaker Sanjay Gupta. "I can't believe this news. Nitin Desai was the best at what he did. We worked on a few films together. Always smiling, always making life easier on set. This news is devastating. Rest In Peace my friend. You will always be missed," Sanjay Gupta tweeted.

Actor Parineeti Chopra said she was "heartbroken" to hear about Desai's passing. "His groundbreaking work, wisdom and artistry will be remembered forever. Rest in peace sir," she wrote.

Russian influencer Zhanna Samsonova, fondly known as Zhanna D'Art, passed away at the age of 39. 

Ms Samsonova — who survived entirely on a raw vegan diet — reportedly died of starvation. 

A friend, living a floor above Ms Samsonova, expressed her fear of “finding her lifeless body in the morning.” Despite Ms Samsonova's friend convincing her to seek treatment, the influencer “didn't make it.”

Here are five facts about vegan influencer Ms Samsonova:

— Ms Samsonova was on an all-raw vegan diet for at least a decade. She used to promote a raw vegan diet and urged her followers to embrace the lifestyle.

— The 39-year-old used to consume jackfruit, durian, fruits, seeds, sprouts, fruit juices, and smoothies.  Ms Samsonova also used to share recipes and tips.

— Ms Samsonova's mother, in conversation with New York Post,  said that her daughter died of a “cholera-like infection.” In addition, she believed that Ms Samsonova had succumbed to exhaustion and the stress placed on her body by an all-vegan diet.

— As per her Instagram bio, Ms Samsonova was “Raw food Creation by Zhanna D'art Chef.”

Bear Standing On Hind Legs Not A Human In Disguise, Says Chinese Zoo

A Chinese zoo has been forced to deny that its sun bear is actually a human in a costume, after footage of one standing on its hind legs raised online accusations of a furry imposter.

A video clip of a bear rearing up and interacting with a group of people at a zoo in eastern Hangzhou city went viral on Chinese social media.

Many users posted comments doubting that the bear was real, with some alleging that its bipedal posture and wrinkled skin suggested that it was actually a human in costume.

The Hangzhou Zoo, located in Zhejiang, Hangzhou, China, had to issue a statement this weekend after people saw this video and questioned if the Sun Bears at their zoo were actually humans dressed in costumes.

But the zoo dismissed the rumours, saying in a statement written from the bear's perspective on Sunday that the animal was real and its detractors "really don't understand me".

"The zoo director called me after work yesterday and asked if I'd been slacking off by finding a two-legged beast to replace me," the bear, named Angela, said in the statement.

"Some people thought the way I stand up looks too human... so I will stress again: I'm a sun bear!"

Native to Southeast Asia, sun bears are named for a patch of bright orange or cream-coloured chest fur that stands out against the rest of its jet-black coat.

It is the smallest bear -- about the size of a large dog -- and is listed as a vulnerable species due to deforestation and the global wildlife trade.

Other Chinese zoos have previously been accused of stocking their enclosures with animals that are not what they seem -- including a hairy dog passed off as an "African lion" and a pool filled with penguin-shaped balloons.

"Never Thought...": Google Techie Who Taught Juniors Shares Proud Moment

A Google engineer, who taught coding to his juniors while he was studying at Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College in West Bengal, on Monday proudly shared that the first benchers in his classes are now all employed as software engineers at Amazon.

Raj Vikramaditya, known as 'Striver' on microblogging site X, reminisced about a particular class from 2017. In his post, he revealed that even amidst a power outage, the determined students in his class used their flashlights to continue learning. This moment, he said, will forever remain etched in his heart. 

"I never thought that the first benchers would be in Amazon," the Google engineer wrote on X.

 Mr Vikramaditya shared a picture of the classroom and a screenshot showcasing current professional statues of his former students, all visible next to their names.

Mr Vikramaditya shared his proud moment just two days back and since then his story has inspired many online. His post has accumulated more than 32,000 views and over 600 likes. In the comment section, while some users called the post "inspirational," others called it "remarkable". 

"Damn this is inspirational," wrote one user. "Thanks for all you do striver," commented another. 

Mr Vikaramaditya also replied to one user seeking advice. "Bhaiya tomorrow is my first day as a third year b-tech student, any tips and advice?" the user asked. To this, the Google engineer simply replied, "Patience". 

According to his social media bio, Mr Vikramaditya is a former employee of Amazon himself. He currently works with Google in Poland.

First Test Images From Euclid Space Telescope Unveiled

The Euclid space telescope, launched July 1 on a mission to shed more light on elusive dark matter and dark energy, has reached its destination orbit and on Monday its European operators revealed its first test images.

The star-filled snapshots were taken during the space telescope's commissioning -- a phase during which its powerful instruments are finely calibrated -- and therefore not representative of its full potential.

But the European Space Agency (ESA) says the tests already show it will be capable of fulfilling its massive mission.

"After more than 11 years of designing and developing Euclid, it's exhilarating and enormously emotional to see these first images," Euclid project manager Giuseppe Racca in a statement.

After blasting off from Florida, the satellite has travelled about one million miles (1.5 million kilometers) away from Earth to its observational orbit.

From there, Euclid will chart the largest-ever map of the universe, encompassing up to two billion galaxies across more than a third of the sky.

By capturing light that has taken 10 billion years to reach Earth's vicinity, the map will also offer a new view of the 13.8-billion-year-old universe's history.

Its visible light camera will let it measure the shape of galaxies, while its near-infrared spectrometer and photometer -- developed with the help of NASA -- will allow it to measure how far away they are.

But when the instruments were switched on, researchers were spooked by "an unexpected pattern of light contaminating the images," the ESA said.

An investigation led researchers to believe that "some sunlight was creeping into the spacecraft, probably through a tiny gap," but that it was only detected when Euclid was oriented in certain ways.

"By avoiding certain angles," ESA said, Euclid's imaging device "will be able to fulfil its mission."

Scientists hope to use information gathered to address what Racca previously called a "cosmic embarrassment": that 95 per cent of the universe remains unknown to humanity.

Around 70 per cent is thought to be made of dark energy, the name given to the unknown force that is causing the universe to expand at an accelerated rate.

And 25 per cent is believed to be dark matter, thought to bind the universe together and makeup around 80 per cent of its mass.

The telescope's scientific operations are due to begin in October.
