Video: Woman In US Celebrates Her Divorce By Burning Her Wedding Dress

A woman celebrated her divorce by burning her wedding dress and telling her ex she's "the best he will ever have". Lauren Brooke was married to her former partner for 10 years after tying the knot in October 2012. She split with her ex-husband in September 2021 but by law had to be separated for a year and a day before they could file for a divorce in parts of the US.

After the divorce was completed in January 2023, Ms Brooke, alongside her mother Felicia Bowman, 58, and best friend wanted to do an "empowering" photoshoot to mark the occasion. The banker from North Carolina in the United States told South West news Service (SWNS): "The intent was to show the fact that divorce is hard, ugly and painful for all parties involved. There were days when every morning I would wake up and cry. There were times when I thought my life wouldn't improve, but it has."

"We are getting divorced but we have to work with each other for the rest of our lives to bring up our children. I survived it, I came out onto the other side. I don't cry in the morning when I wake up anymore. I am in a better place," Ms Brooke added.

After her ex-husband filed for divorce in October 2022, the 31-year-old thought her "life was over" and was left in a dark place.

"Life happens. People make choices and sometimes people have to live with no consequences. My intent with the separation was that I wanted to work it out, but that did not happen. I said 'if this does not work out if I am in pain, I will make light of it' and we did," said Ms Brooke.

The photoshoot took place in March 2023 in Ms Brookes' backyard. The woman said the shoot was "spontaneous" and "last minute".

The shots were taken by Ms Brookes' mother and her best friend, a videographer, filmed the shoot.

"There were lots of laughs that day. I am terrified of fire and they are lighting the dress on fire with me in it. I felt empowered. I was worried that there might be a moment when I was sad. It is the end of the marriage that I thought I would have forever. You are grieving the loss of the relationship but I didn't it was fun," Ms Brooke said, describing the experience.

The shoot took an hour and Ms Brooke can be seen stamping on wedding pictures, ripping her dress up and setting it on fire.

"I am very happy now. The only reason where I am today is because of my faith. You will get through the other side. A lot of women are shamed for divorce but men seem to be congratulated for it. We are told that no matter what we are supposed to stay and keep our family together, but many women struggle with it. We should not be made to feel ashamed," said Ms Brooke.

Earlier this year, another woman shared how she celebrated her fourth 'divorce-versary' on LinkedIn and Twitter. Shasvati Siva wrote in the post, "In the last 4 years, I have had the opportunity to do so many interesting things that I never imagined in my roadmap of life." Ms Shiva also shared a picture of herself enjoying a quiet day out while sipping some hot drinks taken by her current partner.

In September last year, an invitation card about a group of men in Madhya Pradesh's capital Bhopal celebrating their marriage dissolution from courts after long-drawn divorce battles had gone viral on social media. An NGO named Bhai Welfare Society had created the invitation card, saying that the initiative will "motivate" people that life doesn't end after divorce. However, some groups and individuals staged protests after which it was cancelled.

"Banging That Door Down": Shastri's Huge Take on MI Star's India Chances

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 has already produced quite a few young superstars and former India head coach Ravi Shastri believes that there is one India youngster who can make the national side in the near future. In a recent interaction, Shastri was all praise for the MI batter N Tilak Varma for his performances in the tournament this year and said that he is “banging that door down” when it comes to making his case for the Indian cricket team. The legend praised Tilak's ability to play solid cricket from the start and how he is not afraid to take chances against any bowler.

“A standout player is Tilak Varma, who I think I said in the second game or third game on commentary I said he is an India Player in the near future. He will be banging that door down because he has got that all-round ability not just to finish it off at the end, the clarity of thought when he comes out to bat, what impresses me the most is his first ten balls, he is not afraid to take his chances, play shots, back his strengths,” Shastri said on ESPNCricinfo.

Tilak Varma is currently the highest run-getter for MI in IPL 2023 with 214 runs from 5 matches.

"As Rohit said a very good line at the presentation yesterday (he doesn't play the bowler, he plays the ball), he is not worried about the reputation in the sense that he is not overawed by the bowler, he plays what's on offer, he plays irrespective of the name, he doesn't play the name, he plays the ball and which is there for everyone to see,” Shastri explained.

"He has got a wide range of shots, he has got the temperament, he looked very good last year but he is looking better this year, you watch for players who improve," he added.

"Rohit Felt That He Would...": MI Coach On Arjun Tendulkar's 31-Run Over

Mumbai Indians head coach Mark Boucher lamented that his side allowed Punjab Kings to get away with the game in the final five overs of the first innings, wherein they added 96 runs to push their total to a match-winning 214 for 8. In reply, Mumbai Indians fell 13 runs short despite Cameron Green (67 off 43 balls), Suryakumar Yadav (57 off 26) and skipper Rohit Sharma (44 off 27) playing some fine knocks at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday.

"I thought the game was in the balance. Surya's was a big wicket, a couple of centimeters higher or lower and it would probably have gone for a boundary. He held his nerve at the end, so well done to him. We batted well but they (PBKS) did get too many runs, which is disappointing because we controlled half percent of the game. We let it slip towards the end of our bowling (innings),” Boucher told the media after PBKS' victory, fashioned by Arshdeep Singh's four-wicket haul.

"It was nice for Surya to get some runs. The way he does, it always looks spectacular. Form is a funny thing, sometimes you judge it by the numbers. He has been hitting the ball really well in the nets. It was just a matter of time before it translated into runs," he said.

Boucher said it is frustrating when a side concedes 100-odd runs in the last five overs, saying that that was the only reason Mumbai Indians lost on Saturday night.

"We were in control until the 15th over and then they got 96 runs in the last five (overs). That is some hitting. We got it wrong, and it is frustrating because we dominated and when we did lose, we lost it incredibly big. We can put a finger on why we lost." The South African backed Arjun Tendulkar, who went for 31 runs in the 15th over of PBKS' innings. Arjun was the most expensive MI bowler, conceding 48 runs in three overs at an economy of 16.

"I think Rohit, who is a very experienced cricketer, felt that he would bowl Arjun at the 14th-15th over. That was a better match-up at that stage in the game. Sometimes, they (decisions) go your way and sometimes they do not. Unfortunately, it did not go his way, and, in hindsight, sometimes the match-ups do not work and that is just the nature of T20 cricket," he said.

"It will be tough on him (Arjun), coming in to bowl at the back end at Wankhede where the conditions were good to bat on. He, maybe, got one or two (deliveries) wrong, he probably felt under the pressure but he will live and learn from it. It is not the end of the world; it is still not the early days but mid days in the IPL and, hopefully, he will come back stronger. He has full support of the support staff and players to try and get over this as quickly as possible," Boucher added.

The MI coach said he was pleased to see Jofra Archer making a comeback. "Jof bowled with some good pace, he wanted to land a couple of yorkers but the wicket was good to bat on. For his first outing (after a short layoff), we will take it. Hopefully, he will not feel any pain tomorrow," he said.

Punjab Kings wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma said his side was aware of the fact that MI's long batting line-up posed a threat, despite Arshdeep Singh (4/29) landing a decisive blow to get rid of Suryakumar.

"Every wicket is very important in T20 cricket. Rohit Sharma's wicket was crucial, so was Ishan Kishan's. Surya's wicket was also very crucial at that moment but we knew Tim David and the line-up and the cushion of having one extra batter as impact player, they could go all out. We could not have got complacent or relaxed after Surya got out," he said.

Jitesh added that PBKS' regular captain Shikhar Dhawan is close to making a comeback. "Shikhar bhai is almost there, I think we can see him soon," he said.

"Want To Marry, Not Date": Chahal On Proposing Dhanashree. She Said, "No"

Far from the focus on the cricket field, the personal lives of Indian cricketers also get equal following. Wherever they go the spotlight follows. Same is the case with star India and Rajsthan Royals leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and his wife Dhanashree Verma. The duo first met virtually during COVID lockdown as Chahal was taking dance lessons from Dhanashree, who is a very popular dancer and has a very big following on social media.

As interaction between the two increased, it finally resulted in the duo getting married in December 2020. Chahal has now recounted a funny incident about his wedding proposal to Dhanashree.

"When the lockdown happened. I stayed with my family. It was for the first time that I stayed at my Gurugram home for so long. Almost three-four months. I enjoyed the time with my family and my pets. Then, it occurred to me that I always had this despite to learn dancing. Then I got suggestion that Dhanashree gave online classes. So I took online classes for two months," Chahal said in an interview on 'Humans of Bombay' YouTube channel

Then one day I Asked her 'why are you so happy in life?' She replied, 'I am like that only. I seek happiness in small things in life'. I got the right vibes and I told my family. I told her 'I want to marry you, don't want to date you. I don't want to waste time in dating. I was 30 then. She said, 'No, I want to meet you first.' We never met before that. We met in Mumbai and then she said, 'ok, now, yes, fine.'"

Chahal is currently playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 and is one of leading wicket-takers.

"Ye Kaun Hai Bachcha" - Kohli's Hilarious Blindfold Challenge Ft. Chhetri

India and Royal Challengers Bangalore star batter Virat Kohli is one of the most energetic cricketers in world cricket at the moment. With Kohli, there's is never a dull moment, whether it's on-the-field or off-the-field. In a hilarious video shared on social media, Kohli took part in a blindfold challenge where he tried to identify his RCB teammates and Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri. The video was shared by Puma, RCB's official kit sponsor, on their Instagram handle with a caption: "Game recognises game".

Kohli started the challenge by mistaking Dinesh Karthik with Mohammed Siraj. However, he managed to recognise Karthik eventually by toucing his beard.

He then recognised Siraj by his watch. Siraj was followed by RCB captain Faf du Plessis, whom Kohli identified from his tattoos and the watch on his right arm.

Kohli's RCB teammates were followed by Chhetri, who was holding a red cricket ball in his hands. The 34-year-old initially found it difficult to identify Chhetri as he was not wearing a watch or any other accessories.

He tried to measure Chhetri's height, calling him 'a boy with a short height'. He then tried to identify him by touching his hair, but had no success there as well.

Kohli was then given a hint that the person to be identified was a 'quick all-rounder'. Finally, Kohli burst out in laughter upon realising that the person was none other than Chhetri.

Both talismans shared a laughter before Kohli presented Chhetri with a RCB jersey.

Watch the video here:

With Faf unable to field due to a rib injury, Kohli led RCB in their previous game against Punjab Kings.

RCB won the game by 24 runs in Mohali.

"Epidemic-Level Violence": US Trans Woman And Documentary Star Shot Dead

Koko Da Doll, an actor and transgender rights activist who was featured in the award-winning documentary "Kokomo City", was shot dead in the United States on Tuesday, the police said.

The victim, 35, also known as Rasheeda Williams, was famous for being vocal on issues pertaining to black transgender women. Their body was found on a footpath next to a shopping mall in Atlanta, capital of the US state of Georgia on Wednesday, reported the Associated Press.

Rasheeda Williams was one of the key characters on whom the documentary "Kokomo City" is based. The documentary which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, is directed by the Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter and producer D Smith. The film centres around four trans sex workers living in Atlanta and New York City -- Kojo, Dominique Silver, Liyah Mitchell and Daniella Carter. It paints -- and the trials and tribulations of their daily lives.

"Koko Da Doll, was the latest victim of violence against Black transgender women. I created Kokomo City because I wanted to show the fun, humanized, natural side of Black trans women. I wanted to create images that didn't show the trauma or the statistics of the murder of Transgender lives. I wanted to create something fresh and inspiring. I did that. We did that! But here we are again," D Smith wrote on Instagram.

"It's extremely difficult to process Koko's passing, but as a team, we are more encouraged now than ever to inspire the world with her story. To show how beautiful and full of life she was. She will inspire generations to come and will never be forgotten," she added.

The Atlanta Police said that they are probing the murders of Rasheeda Williams and two other transgender women who were allegedly murdered earlier this year.

"The Atlanta Police Department(APD) is actively investigating three violent crimes involving transgender women this year. While these individual incidents are unrelated, we are very aware of the epidemic-level violence black and brown transgender women face in America," the Atlanta Police said in a statement.

Human Rights Campaign, an LGBT rights group, claims that at least 38 people from the transgender community were killed in 2022.

Watch: "Our Yorker King..." - MI Star Tells Arjun. His Response Is Gold

With Tilak Varma and Arjun Tendulkar, Mumbai Indians (MI) have two exciting prospects at their disposal. On Tuesday, MI defeated SunRisers Hyderabad by 14 runs, with Tilak and Arjun playing their part in the success. While Tilak (37 off 17 balls) played a wonderful cameo to lead Mumbai Indians' charge in the middle over, Arjun bowled a brilliant last over to defend 20 runs, while also taking his first IPL wicket in the process. Ahead of their next game against Punjab Kings, Tilak and Arjun indulged in an interesting conversation during their travel time.

In a video shared by MI on Twitter, Tilak labelled Arjun as the yorker king of the team and asked the 23-year-old about his experience of handling the pressure of bowling the final over.

"You're the yorker king in our team, so how was the pressure in the last over while they were chasing 20 runs," asked Tilak.

Replying to the same, Arjun said: "Not much pressure because obviously 20 runs we should defend. I had practised so much and I was confident."

After two overs at the start, MI captain Rohit Sharma gave Arjun the ball in the last over with SRH needing 20 runs to win.

Arjun delivered a couple of yorkers and also took the wicket of Bhuvneshwar Kumar ad his team won the match by 14 runs.

Rohit lauded Arjun for his performance against SRH, saying the medium pacer has clarity of thought when it comes to his bowling.

"It's quite exciting to play with Arjun. Life has come a full circle," Rohit, who shared the Indian and MI dressing room with his father -- the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, said at the presentation ceremony.

"Arjun has been a part of this team for three years. He understands what he wants to do. He is quite confident as well. He is clear in his plans. He is trying to swing the new ball and bowl yorkers at the death."

"But The Problem Is": Ganguly's Brutally Honest Verdict On Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals picked up their first victory of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 against Kolkata Knight Riders at Arun Jaitley Stadium by 4 wickets on Thursday and luck certainly played a crucial role in their victory. Unexpectedly rain intervened and forced the game to kick off late than the usual time. The new conditions took KKR by surprise and DC capitalize on the opportunity that came knocking on their door. DC batters however struggled to chase down the low target as their batting unit once again surfaced as the major problem in their unsuccessful campaign.

"We were on the luckier side today. We bowled well before as well this season. But the problem is the batting. We need to go back and look at ourselves and see how we can get better. Spinners bowled well. I know we have not played well and need to find a way to bat better. We work hard with the boys and get them back in form. Be it Prithvi, Manish, or Mitch Marsh. They have been important players and around for a while for their respective teams. We have a day off tomorrow and then fly to Hyderabad, hopefully, it will be a good batting wicket there, as it usually is," said Sourav Ganguly Director of Cricket, Delhi Capitals.

The pressure of picking up their first points in IPL 2023 not only affected the players but also the management. For Ganguly, the pressure of picking up the first points in the campaign was just like scoring his first runs in Test format.

"Happy to get off the mark. I was sitting there in the dugout and thinking it was like getting my first Test run (about the pressure to get their first points of the season).

Kolkata Knight Riders were asked to bat first and they barely managed to put up a total of 127 on the board. Andre Russell's last-over heroics played a crucial role in setting up the target. Russell struck three sixes in the final over. Delhi began their innings steadily but ended up losing wickets in quick succession. The game went to the final over and Axar Patel made sure to finish off the game by chasing the target of 128 with four balls to spare.

Delhi Capitals will be keen to build a winning streak against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
