Plant-based milk such as soy milk, almond milk, coconut milk and others may be favourite alternatives for those who are lactose intolerant or for those who don't prefer dairy products for varied reasons, but such products may no longer be available to users with the generic term 'milk'. FSSAI has proposed that an imitation product offered as an alternative to milk should not use the term if derived using non-dairy sources.
