The government is looking to amend several laws – from the Companies Act to Sebi Act and Fema – to stipulate checks on foreign direct investment from China and other neighbouring countries as part of an exercise to strengthen its vigil, while also creating a central database for overseas investments. Discussions on legal amendments had begun before the tension at the LAC.
